RECIPE: How To Bake Bread, Ingredients, Preparation Procedure

Bread is a popular starchy food consumed all over the world. According to the Oxford dictionary, bread is food made of flour, water, and yeast mixed together and baked. Wikipedia defines it as a staple food prepared from a dough of flour (usually wheat) and water, usually by baking.

Throughout recorded history and around the world, it has been an important part of many cultures' diet. It is one of the oldest human-made foods, having been of significance since the dawn of agriculture, and plays an essential role in both religious rituals and secular culture.

Bread may be leavened by naturally occurring microbes (e.g. sourdough), chemicals (e.g. baking soda), industrially produced yeast, or high-pressure aeration, which creates the gas bubbles that fluff up bread. In many countries, commercial bread often contains additives to improve flavor, texture, color, shelf life, nutrition, and ease of production.

Ingredients Needed

The following are ingredients needed for bread baking:

  • Flour
  • Butter
  • Yeast

Preparation Procedure/Steps in Bread Baking

  1. Add margarine and salt to flour and mix thoroughly. Margarine is a good alternative to butter. While butter is made from animal fats, margarine is made from vegetable oil. Any of the above could be used for bread baking but the resultant bread may have difference in taste if either margarine of butter is used, as cakes made out of butter tend to be tastier, while those made from margarine tend to be lighter in colour and denser.
  2. Mix sugar and yeast with warm water
  3. Pour the mixture into the mixed flour and mix until smooth
  4. Cut and put into a loaf pan and bake in hot oven for 45 minutes
  5. Reduce the heated oven for 15 minutes.
  6. Bring it out from the oven.
