So what is Ayoba?
Ayoba is a social app, that can be used to communicate among friends, colleagues, associates, business partners, etc.
Ayoba is much like WhatsApp or Telegram, but with an added advantage.
Just like WhatsApp and Telegram, Ayoba signs you up on the platform using your phone number; but the advantage Ayoba has over them is that even those that have no Ayoba on their phones, or those not registered on the platform can still receive your chats and messages in the form of sms.
Recently MTN announced that its instant messaging platform, Ayoba has reached 1 million monthly active users. Ayoba is an advanced communications application localised for African and Middle East consumer needs, under an independent Over the Top (OTT) brand with unique features for MTN customers. The app supports many local languages spoken across the MTN markets including isiZulu, isiXhosa, Pidgin, Yoruba, Swahili, Hausa, French and English.

The platform is now operational in 8 MTN markets, namely: Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Afghanistan and South Africa.

- Local languages: Ayoba is available in the top local languages in the markets where the offering has launched.

How to share the contact details of your contacts using Ayoba?
You can share the contact details of your contacts with Ayoba. This helps Ayoba recognize who your friends are, and suggest to you those who are on Ayoba.Similary, when Ayoba knows the contact details of your contacts, it helps the program tell you when your friends who were not on the platform initially, register; much more like Telegram.
To share the contact details of your contacts with Ayoba, use the + (new chat icon) to start a new chat, then tap the attachment icon, now you can select Contact, then simply tap on the contact you want to share.
Like any modern messaging app, Ayoba can also be used to send and share images. to share your favourite selfies and photos easily with Ayoba, use the + (new chat icon) to start a new chat, then tap the attachment icon, then select Gallery to select images from your library. You can also tap on Camera to take a photo and share it immediately.
Like Instagram, Facebook, and other social media, you can share your location on Ayoba. To share your location with your contacts, simply tap the + (new chat icon) to start a new chat, then tap the attachment icon and select Location.
You can send a short voice message to another Ayoba user by simply tapping the Microphone icon at the bottom right corner of your chat screen. You can also create a new chat message using the + (new chat icon) then tap the attachment icon and select Audio, then tap the Microphone icon to record your message.
To send any file or document, tap the + (new chat icon) to start a new chat, then tap the attachment icon then select File. Now browse your device, select the file and share it with your contacts.
Tap on the message you would like to view. To reply, simply tap in the compose bar at the bottom of the screen then type your reply and hit send.
You can forward messages, audio files, images and contacts by tapping and holding on the message you would like to forward, then tap the forward arrow at the top right-hand corner of your screen, then select the contact you would like to share the message with and hit send. Content will be marked as “Forwarded”. You will also receive a notification indicating that the message has been forwarded. Just much more like the forward facility on WhatsApp.
To delete a message, simply tap and hold on the message in the chat screen, then select the trash bin icon at the top of the screen and finally confirm your selection.
As of now, it is not possible to archive chats on Ayoba. If you want to remove a chat from your chat list, you can do so by deleting it, although this is a permanent deletion and you will not be able to retrieve it later. As time goes on, Ayoba may incorporate an archiving facility, but it is not possible at the moment
Your chats are always sorted according to most recent, these chats appear at the top of the list. You cannot change this sorting method in Ayoba (at the moment).

You will be able to force the creation of a new backup by tapping the Menu bar, select Settings, then Maintenance and then Chat Backup. This will securely backup your chats into the cloud, and allow you to restore your chat history if need be.
To restore your chat history from back up, tap the Menu button, then select Settings, then tap on Maintenance and select Chat Backup, and restore.
Note that your backups are not stored locally on your device, and so you will need access to the internet to make a backup.
The Auto Download feature is OFF by default. If you want to automatically download images and videos that you receive in Ayoba, you can turn Auto Download ON. You can enable the Auto Download feature by selecting the main menu, then tap on Media and then configure your auto download to suit your needs. It is recommended that you keep this turned off if you have limited data.
