How To Send WhatsApp Files To A Computer Or Other Phones

WhatsApp is a social media platform that has existed for more than a decade now. The social media platform has made communication between friends, families, acquaintances and business associates easier and cheaper over the years.

Before WhatsApp, was what we all knew as 2go, then BBM, but the entrant of WhatApp faded away these other platforms for one major reason.

Let me allow you to guess the reason (winks).

After WhatsApp came Telegram which helped to outdo some of the limitations put in place by WhatsApp. Some of these limitations include the inability to have more than 260 persons in a group though WhatsApp is currently putting measures in place that will allow users to have up to 1000 persons in a group (so I read). It it be true, it be a vibrant booster to WhatsApp service which will help to eliminate the gross group limitation currently placed on WhatsApp groups.

That notwithstanding, WhatsApp is still the giant of social messaging available in most smartphones around the world today.

Purchased by Facebook, currently Meta a few years back, WhatsApp is still helping to make communications via internet and VOIP easy, cheap and highly accessible today.

What many users may not currently know, is how they can access, and transfer their downloaded WhatsApp files to a computer or another mobile phone.

This is very useful if for instance you wish to print out a document which was sent to you via WhatsApp on a computer. How then will you locate such a file.

This post is about to guide you on how to do it in easy to understand steps.

The first method is to locate and access your WhatsApp file(s) so you can send them to a computer for printing or any other purpose is:

• Download the file or document on WhatsApp.
• Check the name of the file or document on WhatsApp. Make sure to remember this name.
• Connect your phone to your computer via a USB cord.
• Grant access to your computer to read/access your phone memory through the USB options popped up on your phone screen. You can do this by choosing 'File Transfer' on your phone.
• Your phone is read and recognized on the computer. Now navigate to the following folder on your computer. Internal Storage/Android/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Documents.

Now you can locate your document by name from this folder. If you have many files downloaded to this location, you can click the search bar available to the top right corner of Windows explorer and type the name of the document to search for it. When you see the file, you can copy it to a folder on your computer by pressing Ctrl + C, then navigate to the location you wish to save it on the computer and press Ctrl + V.

To send to another phone, press and hold the document for a few seconds. A list of options pops up. Click 'Share'. Depending on the file explorer you are using, you may need to click more to see the 'Share' option. On the default android file explorer, the 'Share' option is the first available option from the left of the options displayed at the bottom of your phone screen.

A list of choices pops. Pick the option you wish to use to share your document with another phone or device and proceed as you would normally do when transferring a file or document from a phone. You may use Bluetooth, Xender, Xshare or other methods of file sharing available to you.

To send other files apart from document, navigate to the appropriate folder for the file instead of the documents folder.

E.g. to send a video file, navigate to 'WhatsApp Video' as the last folder instead of WhatsApp Documents. To send an audio including music, voice clips and voice messages, navigate to WhatsApp Audio instead.

With that out of the way, let us see how to transfer a file or document to a computer from WhatsApp.

This method is often the fastest for me.

To use this method, you'll need to download the WhatsApp desktop application from https://web.whatsapp.com/

Install it on your computer.

Connect/Link the WhatsApp desktop application/client to your main WhatsApp account.

Now locate the file from the sender directly on your computer from the WhatsApp desktop application.

Download the file and pick the location on your computer you wish to save it.

This is pretty easy right?

To send the file from your computer to another phone, you can connect other phone via a USB cord and transfer to the phone.

There are other ways to transfer a file to from your computer to mobile phone and vice versa without using a USB cord, but that would be a topic for another day.
