How To Block Your Access Bank Debit/ATM Card Without Going To The Bank

This post is meant to teach you exactly how to block your bank ATM card, debit card and credit card without first going to the bank. It is a common scenario to encounter a situation whereby your debit/credit/ATM card is lost or stolen, and you need to block it immediately to stop unauthorized access to your funds. 

Normally if you lost your card, you'll need to go to the bank, join a long queue, fill a form, meet with the customer personnel who will collect the form from you and then proceed to block your card.

Why follow such long procedure when you can actually block your card right from the comfort of your home, or wherever you are.

One of the disadvantages of going to the bank before blocking your card is the time or delay factor.

What if you meet an urgent situation and you needed to act fast.

What if thieves are already stealing money from your account, and you need to block it before they wipe everything out?

That is why I am taking out this special time to show you exactly how you can stop such a bad occurrence from happening to your money in the bank.

One of the advantages I'd also like to show you is that, if you successfully block the card, then you've locked out all intruders from your account.

Imagine if someone steals your phone with your registered mobile number with which you carry out mobile transactions.

With your sim card, you can transfer money, pay bills, top up airtime, and more.

Your sim card was registered for mobile banking using your debit card/ATM card details, hence blocking the card will also automatically stop thieves, fraudsters and other intruders from stealing your money.

So without wasting time, let's see how you can block your debit card/ATM card or credit card from the comfort of your home.

This method applies to most Nigerian banks including First Bank, UBA, GTB, Union Bank, Sterling Bank, Diamond Bank, Keystone Bank, etc.

I will however, use access bank for this demonstration.

If your bank provides a mobile banking app or facility, you should be able to access this functionality therein.

To proceed, if you haven't installed the  Access More banking app, you can do so from the Playstore or Appstore.

If you already have the app installed on your phone, just open it up.

In the event that your phone was stolen, you can borrow that of a close family relative, or use an alternate phone you own to download and install the mobile banking app.

Don't forget to log out your details from the app and delete/uninstall it if you borrowed or used somebody else's phone.

It is only possible to register on another phone if you have your registered SIM card with the bank, or you've already welcomed it back.

When logged into the app, you should see 'Menu' - the second icon from the left at the bottom of your screen. Click it.

Click 'Cheques & Cards'. Here, you'll see four options after you click 'Cheques & Cards':

'Cheques', 'Debit Cards', 'Credit Cards', & 'Virtual Cards'.

Click on the option that corresponds to the type of card you wish to block. If you want to block an ATM card, click 'Debit Cards'.

Now you should see your ATM card - exactly as it looks physically, but some digits are masked.

Now click the 'Block' switch. This will toggle the switch to the 'on' position.

Congratulations! You've successfully blocked your card from intruders, fraudsters, and every external threats.
